Daddy! Is it true that two earths will be needed to sustain our lifestyles by 2030?
Dad: I guess so Daughter: So Dad, what can we do about it?
Before we can solve this problem, first we need to know what is the meaning of going green.
Going green is using less plastic bags
and not buying stuff when you don't need it
Going green is making earth's environment better
by not littering and wasting water.
Okay... Like... You must practice the 3Rs
The 3Rs
which is reduce, reuse and recycle.
Most people associate going green with the 3Rs but in actual fact
environmentalism
encompasses five different aspects.
They are
Reduce Pollution
Conserve Resources
Save Energy
Reduce Consumption and Wastes
and last but not least protect the Earth's
ecological balance.
Hmmmm...I realise mum always brings the eco-bag for grocery shopping but you don't.
Does that mean that girls are greener than guys?
From what you observe, are the guys or the girls greener
in their daily habits?
I would say girls
I think it depends, but generally
girls.
Of course it's girls.
Erm, I only know of my wife. She's greener.
than the other people I know.. So probably
Girls
I guess being girls... They're more... Mother Nature
I don't know why... I just feel girls are more green.
Girls are more like...
I like healthy food and if
the animals are treated well, and the guys are like, for example, in Germany
I've a Hamburger!
I don't know..
I guess it's a stereotype or social stigma that guys are more
heck care... Yeah... Unless their girlfriend or wife nags at them
Do you have anything to say for the guys
It's probably because guys don't really think about it.
It seems like most people believe that females
some more conscious about the environment than males.
according to a study in France, females have a lower carbon footprint than men
and they respond more positively to environmentally friendly advertising.
women contribute to 32.3 kgs of carbon emissions per day
well men contribute to a whopping 39.3 Kgs
However in actual fact, both males and females have different lifestyle habits
that have adverse effects on mother earth.
For example. females are generally observed to have purchasing patterns that are detrimental
to the environment
women purchase nearly twice as many jeans as men
To manufacture a pair of jeans, 1.5 pounds of cotton is needed
and it requires 5700l of water
which is equivalent to four thousand large coke bottles.
Besides that, over half a pound of fertilizers
pesticides and toxic dyes are used.
So, females can learn from males in this aspect and make purchases only when necessary
in order to save resources
Do you know that women spend
39 seconds longer in the shower as compared to men?
This may appear to be very insignificant, but over a period of one year
the amount of water wasted can hydrate a human being for 600 days!
Therefore to conserve our resources, women should take quicker showers
and less baths
to save more water.
I know! Daddy, you should learn to eat less meat too
to reduce the demand for meat. The reduced livestocks can cut down greenhouse
emissions.
Erm... Actually you are right girl.
on the average woman generally consume less meat and processed food
than men. Seventy percent of the forest area in the Amazon
are deforested in order to create new pastures
and six thousand seven hundred million tons of greenhouse gases
comes from raising animals for food each year.
That is equivalent to the weight of 3.2 million blue whales
the biggest living creatures on the planet!
Does that mean that we would need to make
specific big movements or changes in order to help the environment?
Actually that is not the case. Everyone can play their part
by making small changes to their daily habits to make the world a greener place.
and together we can make a big difference.
Females and males
have different lifestyle habits that may harm Mother Earth
to different extents. Therefore we should pick up the good habits from the
opposite sex
one step at a time if you want to play a part in the conservation of our planet.
This would surely make a deep impact on the future.
Together, we can make the world a greener place
