Hi, welcome to Southpaw Saturday...on a Sunday!
And today's topic will be just, sexuality in
other things: ads, video games (not really video games b/c Heidi went into that more),
tiny bit about manga...
literature...mostly literature and ads- enjoy! And Happy New Year!
I don't watch TV anymore so ads are kind of a rare occasion for me. But now that I'm home, my dad
always has the TV on and sometimes I'll sit there & watch a bit of a show or movie and of course
the ads come on, or I'll be driving in the car, & ads on the radio...I just
can't stand it anymore. I guess since I've stopped watching TV, I have no more tolerance for ads
B/c they all seem, like, absolutely ludicris to me. Like, "buy this anti-aging cream"
"Look your best!" What's so wrong with having imperfections?
Or, looking older? And all the cleaning ads are for women...
It's just, ugh, we're living in such a stereotyped society. Ughh, the ads! It's kinda like this:
*Jazz music.* For meee? Snowglobes~
I guess the ads are so annoying to me b/c they're unavoidable.
If you watch TV, you can see there's a *** show on & if you don't like that, you can change the channel
But, changing the channel won't change the ads. Even
for children's shows, there's still some things that are questionable- not just in a *** way, but
questionable in a moral way. Our society
really enjoys mocking anyone who's "different." If you're too old, that's a "bad thing."
If you're too young, that's a "bad thing." If you're not pretty, that's a "bad thing." There are so many b
bad things- if you're a woman & you're not in the kitchen that's a "bad thing."
That's...really unavoidable. I was also going to talk about sexuality in manga & comics
& if you're reading a comic & see something you don't like, you can just put it away. But you can't w
walk away from the radio b/c changing the station won't change society.
And how society just values all this...really kinda shallow stuff.
And...that's a problem. Personally, I don't mind if there's sex scenes in
my lit, video games, manga...as long as it's not too graphic
b/c that's part of life for most people (not for me & maybe not for you guys)
but I understand sometimes things are necessary for the plot. In certain video games, like Heidi said
it's just gratuitous and unnecessary, but I'm not NOT going to read a book just b/c there's sex in it
as you guys know, some of my fav TV shows & movies are sorta sex heavy & same thing for some of my favourite
lit
*Shrug.* Some of my fav lit is Shakespeare
& obviously there aren't stage directions: "characters go off and-"
But there's some steamy stuff, esp the sonnets.
I really like Ilium by Dan Simmons
It's a good book if you like Shakespeare & you like the Iliad
I like dystopian novels a lot & there's always a lot of sex in dystopian lit- Idk why.
I'm really into this flawed society that mirrors our own kinda thing and
Yeah...those are some of my fav things. What about you guys?? I'd be interested to know your fav lit!
And also if you will, or won't- how do you deal with sex scenes in lit? Do you read it? Skip over?
Ignore it? Bothered by it?
I guess that's all I really wanted to say...hi kitty!
Wanna come say hi...? It's an ad- go out & buy a cat! :D
