>>Melissa Jensen: Hello, and welcome to the June Fifteenth edition of the Bird’s Eye
View. I’m your host, Melissa Jensen.
First up, I have an announcement for you about a road closure. If you’ve traveled lately
in the northern part of the county, you’ve probably seen the detour signs already! The
North Carolina Department of Transportation closed a section of Poyners Road on June Eleventh
for a bridge replacement project. N C D O T will remove the existing bridge over Tulls
Creek and replace it with a new concrete bridge. The project's deadline is Thursday, November
Fifteenth, two thousand twelve.
While we’re talking about roads and the Department of Transportation, I have some
more information for you from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and Governor
Perdue. The Department has begun planning studies for the proposed widening of US one-fifty-eight
from east of NC thirty-four at Belcross in Camden County to NC one-sixty-eight in Currituck
County. Over the next several weeks, representatives of the Department, as well as the US Army
Corps of Engineers may be present on your property for the purposes of conducting or
verifying the limits of waters and wetlands. These representatives will be wearing orange
safety vests, have picture ID badges, and will be hanging pink and black flagging, or
ribbons, on trees and shrubs to identify the limits of streams and wetlands, if present,
on the property. This flagging does not indicate the location of a proposed transportation
project, but it is very important in the environmental review process. Please do not disturb this
flagging. For general questions about the project, please contact N C D O T Project
Planning Engineer, Joe Miller, at nine, one, nine,- seven, zero, seven – six, zero, three,
one or email josephmiller @ n c d o t dot gov.
