Hey I'm Lynn Chen, I'm an actor.
And now I'm a filmmaker.
So I just wrote, and directed the first half of my first feature film, "I WIll Make You Mine,"
which is also known as "Surrogate Valentine 3."
"Surrogate Valentine" and "Daylight Savings" were two movies that I starred in, in 2011
and 2012, both written and directed by Dave Boyle, who is producing this film.
They centered around real-life musician Goh Nakamura, playing a version of himself, and
in this movie "I Will Make You Mine," we catch up with Goh, and all the characters,
but we see everything from the female perspective.
In this movie, we see private moments, personal moments, and we also see what it's like to grow up,
and not be the version of yourself that you thought you were all those years ago.
Oh My God, please don't compare your life with mine.
Why not?
Cause, you're like a real adult.
So are you.
It was really important for me to show musicians going through the process of writing and creating.
Music is a part of our lives that is not as perfect as you always see in the finished product.
Life is messy, music is messy, art is messy.
It's important for me to be a woman director right now, at this moment, because the tides are shifting.
And I feel like we can all see that things are finally changing.
And for women to be both in front of the camera, and behind the camera, telling our own stories,
showing that we CAN do this, that there are many types of women.
And there are many types of Asian-American women.
Like, I love the fact that I could just cast my friends to play different parts in this movie,
and not have to worry about us fighting over the same part,
which has been what it's been like for the last 20 years.
When we are able to see versions of ourselves in art, in media, in images...
We feel valid. And I want other women to feel valid.
This is definitely one of those sets where nobody has their own trailer.
It may be an indie film, but it doesn't feel like it.
The performances are incredible, it looks great - we're shooting on the very rare
RED Monochrome Helium camera...or maybe it's the RED Helium Monochrome camera...
Obviously, I'm not the best at the DP stuff, which is why I have a really great DP, Bill Otto.
He actually shot the first two films, and it's been really fun to see what's similar
with the first film and the second film, and then how things have really grown and evolved,
just like these characters.
We would love your help in making "I Will Make You Mine" a reality.
So anything you can donate, I would really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
And if you can't donate, which I understand, sometimes I'm in that place too.
Just help spread the word.
Thanks for watching.
