I'm Leslie Guyton.
I am the choreographer for Foster The
People's Houdini video.
Basically, the idea that there's this awesome band,
which is Foster The People.
They really have their own thing going on.
Then while shooting a music video, the rigging falls on
them and kills all of them.
And the managers and the producers don't want
to lose their job.
They hire these puppeteers to come in and make the band
appear to be alive.
And what's really beneficial to them is they can now make
the band do anything that they want, to make,
like, maximum dollar.
I was given 16 counts, which is nothing, to make up like,
the Foster The People dance.
The idea was that the puppeteers were making every
single thing happen, so they were behind them at all times.
So they couldn't do things like turn around.
It had to be, like, really flat on.
They couldn't really bend over too much.
Yeah, working with Foster The People was awesome.
I really admire them as human beings.
They were really excited to be doing dance, and I mean, I
remember in particular, like Mark Foster was like, don't
feel like you have to dumb it down for us.
You should challenge us, and we'll practice.
We'll go home, and we'll get really good at it.
They were actually really fast at picking it up, and they
were really enthusiastic.
And I really admire that they didn't want me to
just make it easy.
That they wanted to try something hard for them.
And I you can see in the video, they look pretty good
during the dances, for non-dancers.
The final shot at the end, you see they're wearing those
white clothes, and clothes rip off, and they get attached to
the puppeteers, and then they come back on to them.
So that trick was done by the clothes
being Velcro'd together.
So they're sort of like, half and half.
