A California man hopes to build the post-apocalyptic vacation destination underground — in Kansas.
"Vivos, a San Diego-based company focusing on shelters is planning on turning this into
a resort for those wanting to survive the end of the world." (Via KQTV)
The former U.S. Army storage facility in Atchison, Kansas is now leased by Robert Vicino — who
says he believes he's "on a mission" and doing something spiritual. (Via KDKA)
The popularity of such shelters has seen a boom in step with that of shows like "Doomsday
Preppers." But these caverns are more than your average crawlspace. (Via National Geographic)
"It's 2 million square feet of the most unique space money can buy. Tucked 130 feet beneath
a mountain, this shelter is one part storage facility, one part vacation destination."

The shelter is said to be equipped to house as many as 5,000 people.
