Cahill Bell Warren, Surfing Victoria: Alcohol is a factor in over 20% of drownings
and 82% of people who drown are male.
Don't swim when you've been drinking or taking drugs.
Remember, drinking or taking drugs can affect your sense of balance,
and disorient you in the water, affecting your swimming ability
and judgement of dangerous situations.
This increases your risk of drowning.
Water and alcohol are a fatal combination,
so don't drink and drown
and never swim alone.
