Hello it's Ron Barrow, District Chief of
Community Outreach and Information Office.
We're down here at the back
of Sunnyside pool on
the Pavilion grounds
at the beach; excellent crowds.
This is sort of a celebration
for youth, youth programs
that we've done in conjunction,
well a partnership not conjunction,
definitely a partnership
with Parks and Recreation.
My colleague here is
Alan Crawford who is
who is going to give you
a little bit more about
what the day is all about.
Well Ron as you know,
this has been
a long term commitment.
Ron, District Chief has been part
of our effort on the
Duke of Edinburgh award;
a youth challenge award
that provides framework
for young people and
today's particularly special
because both Ron and I
appreciate that many of
the kids in this City
don't have back yards
and don't have cottages.
And we've been able to,
with Ron's help and
the adventurous journey
of the Duke of Edinburgh;
bring our Fire Service,
Police Service,
EMS Service and
our own Recreation Service,
the 4000 kids plus
that we hire a summer
that serve and protect
and we just hope that
that whole concept of courage,
compassion and service
is carried on.
