Theosophy a beginners guide...
Theosophy is generally defined as divine wisdom or eternal wisdom.
WISDOM being the key word here, signifying special knowledge.
This complicates the definition,
however, upon closer examination we find that it is not that complicated after all.
The first question to ask oneself, is how does wisdom become eternal?
As the universe is subject to the law
of change,
where everything is constantly changing. Why is Theosophy exempted from it?
Well it is because Theosophy is not a set of doctrines or a body of
teaching given out by anyone individual or any group.
It is a set of methodology to examine the nature around
us and figure out our own understanding of the Divinity.
This methodology does not change with time and is therefore eternal.
However, certain tools are required to understand Theosophy better
Theosophy is a personal experience:
It is about the search for understanding and meaning in life and humanity.
Not only does it revolve around the exploration of Nature and the Divine
by the individual
it also relies on the individual's personal perceptions and experience to
guide him or her towards a better understanding and a better world.
Theosophy is Inclusive:
It does not exclude any thought system,
traditions or subjects,
but encourages the seeker to study all those that suits him or her best.
Theosophy does not exclude modern science in any way.
Theosophy is not a Mystery:
Contrary to popular beliefs it does not believe that there are mysteries or secrets
in nature which need to be accessed through a certain predefined
method or depend on authorities.
It is reflected in the basic premise that "Everything in nature is a sign,
and those signs can be read".
What is unknown is not a mystery. In Theosophy, EVERYTHING is knowable.
