This is the university library.
It is open 24 hours a day and easily located at the centre of campus.
The main entrance is on the first floor, above the SimplyFresh shop.
To enter the library, you need to scan your campus card at the gates.
If you forget your card you can use the kiosk to print off a temporary pass.
There are loads of different study areas in the library, designed for different types of studying.
These include silent study, individual study, group study spaces as well as group study rooms,
which can be booked on the library website.
To find a book, firstly you need to search for it on the library website and locate the shelfmark.
This is a code that tells you exactly where the book is located in the library.
The first number of the shelfmark tells you which floor the book is on, and then signs
on the floor itself will show you where exactly to find the book.
When you’re ready to check out a book, you can use the self-service area
near the entrance on level 1.
Simply scan your campus card, place the book on the reader, remove the book
and then choose whether you would like a receipt or not.
To return a book, simply slide the book onto the conveyor belt,
and again choose if you would like a receipt.
There are printing and scanning facilities available in the library.
To send something to the printer, you need to select the SurreyPrint queue from your computer.
Then to use the printers, swipe your campus card on the side
and select what you want to print on the screen.
To use the scanner and copier functions on the printer, you swipe your campus card,
select ‘Use Copier Functions’, and then choose to scan or copy.
Scans from these printers are automatically emailed to your surrey email address as a pdf.
As well as the desktop PCs available in the library, there is a laptop loan service.
To use this, just scan your campus card and accept the terms and conditions.
Then, you need to scan your card again in the column indicated,
and take out the laptop from the locker.
There’s loads of help and support available from the friendly staff in the library.
You can ask quick questions about using the library services at the support hub on level 1,
which is also where you go if you’ve lost your campus card and need a replacement.
If you need advice on study skills such as research, referencing and writing, you can
visit SPLASH on level 3 of the library.
You can book an appointment with an adviser, or visit one of their drop in sessions or workshops.
If you want to find out more about the library, there will be a programme of welcome talks
and orientation sessions during Freshers’ Week and throughout the year.
You can find out more information about these, or any of the other topics, from the
library website at surrey.ac.uk/library.
