Hi this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. When highway crews of the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet get a break from battling snow and ice, they often turn to another nuisance
created by the winter weather. Potholes are an ongoing maintenance issue for the Cabinet,
especially in winter. And you, as members of the public, can help. You can report potholes
on interstates or other state-maintained highways. There’s a toll-free number 1-800-PATCH-IT,
or 1-800-728-2448. Callers need to provide the county, the route name and the location
of the pothole. You can also report potholes through Kentucky’s 511 website – 511.ky.gov.
From the home page, click on “Travel Info,” and then “Report a pothole.” Fill in the
information and click “send.” Highway crews patch potholes as weather permits. Potholes
develop when water seeps into roadway cracks and freezes. The cycle of freezing and thawing
causes the pavement to expand and break apart. This has been your KYTC minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov
every Thursday for updated information.
