‘The rush of devils have started again Their story is old but has brought them in
a new page They are counted as devils
But they are more professional than original devils in this work
They have the ability to give fraud in different ways
They are counting themselves the most professional They are counting themselves the servants
of the galaxy But the true love is in the hug of the sun’
As a young man, Abdul Qadim Patyal was imprisoned because his cultural activities did not conform
to the views of Taliban regime.
‘Before the prison I was writing some poems and some articles and I was sending those
articles and poems to some magazines and newspapers, which were published outside the country.
There was censorship in Taliban regime so they didn’t allowed the people to write
the poem and write the articles against their regime or their government.
We were struggling, and that is in my memorial that in that time we were struggling.
After the Taliban regime was overthrown by the US troops, Patyal later became the director
for the Information and Culture department of Kandahar.
‘I didn’t stop my struggle, I was writing after the prison different poems, articles.
I was persuading the youths to come to our cultural association.
We have a theatre group which they take the biggest drama award in Afghanistan, in Kabul.
So it means that we have this kind of actors who are so famous all around the country.’
‘It is a part of our culture and our people are very interested in it, the fight of the
birds. We can see in this painting the traditional fight of the ***, people come to see it
an participate.’
‘I think in our arts, in our Afghan arts especially in Kandahar’s arts there is a
big difference and contrast to other arts of other countries that in these paintings
we can see our past three decades of war, the influence of war here in Afghanistan,
on the people, on our country. We can see this old man, poor man. For example
he is coming out of his home to find some money, some money for his family. He shows
our status, in which condition we are.’
‘The hero of the story remains the same His habit and character remains the same
He lives the same as others in this world He remains as brave as before
He remains the same brave fighter as before The entire world is frightened of him’
‘So now when I’m sitting here as a director of this department is also dangerous, it also
dangerous but we are doing it. It’s our country, we have to struggle for our rights,
for our country.’
