Hi this is Miranda Thacker
with your KYTC minute
Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed October “Walk to School Month” in Kentucky.
Parents and students throughout the state are being encouraged to take a more active
path to school by walking or biking.
Through funding from the federal Safe Routes to Schools Program, the Kentucky Transportation
Cabinet is helping communities provide improved walking and biking routes to schools.
On October 7th, Acting Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock celebrated International Walk
to School Day with students at Bondurant Middle School in Frankfort.
He also presented Safe Routes to Schools funding to improve the area’s sidewalk connectivity.
Similar funding has been announced for locations across the commonwealth.
A reminder to young artists across the state: There is still time to enter the Transportation
Cabinet’s annual Adopt-a-Highway poster contest. The deadline has been extended to
Oct. 23.
The form is available online at http://adopt-a-highway.ky.gov/. Just click on the “poster contest” tab.
An update now on Revive 65 – reconstruction of Interstate 65 in Louisville: Work on northbound
I-65 will continue a week longer than expected.
During construction, engineers discovered that ground beneath the road surface is unstable
and requires more extensive repairs.
The extra repairs require continuous lane closures on northbound I-65 through Oct. 14.
Work on southbound I-65 will begin when work on the northbound side is complete. The entire
project is scheduled to be complete by mid-December.
