Welcome to News
12 Long Island, I'm
Judy Martin.
I'm Ron Corning.
A hospital in
Suffolk has issued a
warning about whopping
cough
We're told a
worker in the
maternity ward at Good
Samaritan hospital in
West Islip may have
exposed the illness to
patients.
Officials say a
female employee was
diagnosed with a case
of whopping cough a
few weeks ago.
A hospital
spokesperson tells us
they have called
patients who came in
contact with that
worker -- just as a
precaution.
They're not aware
of any other cases.
But one parent
whose baby was born at
Good Sam back in
August says the
hospital should have
notified people
sooner.
I'm upset, I'm
worried. You know I'm
sure he's gonna be
fine, but it's a shame
that we have to bring
him there and he has
to fo through whatever
tests."
The hospital is
urging anyone who
thinks they may have
been around that
employee to get
checked by their
doctor.
Prosecutors say 2
dozen cats were
abandoned in a
Franklin Square home,
after their owners
were evicted.
And as News 12
Long Island's Ethan
Harp explains,
-- investigators
say the cats were left
in horrific
conditions.
26 cats,
including this one,
were found in squalor
at the Franklin Square
home in March.
Now, after a
six-month
investigation, this
couple, 67-year-old
James Grimm Senior and
his wife Patricia, are
under indictment,
facing charges like
Abandonment, along
with Torturing and
injuring animals.
Neighbors on

still in disbelief.
I'm just dumbfounded
because I love animals
and I'm just very
upset about the whole
thing.
The case came to
light after the Grimms
were evicted following
a long running dispute
with their landlord
for not paying the
rent, leading the
landlord to call in
the Nassau County
Sheriff's Department.
Prosecutors say when
the Grimms finally got
out, they shut the
place up completely.
No way for the cats to
escape. When deputies
came in, the place
wreaked of waste.
They found no food or
water for the cats,
who had made the
ceiling and the walls
their new home.
We never even saw the
cats outside, we had
no idea that there
were animals inside
and they were a very,
very nice family.
says she didn't have
any sense
anything was out of
the ordinary and she
is not alone.
Even the NEXT
door neighbor didn't
have a clue.
And I thought she just
had one cat, I never
saw all these cats.
You know I'm just
really surprised at
the whole thing
because they're very
nice people.
Despite what they
went through, all of
the cats survived...
and have been adopted.

Square, Ethan Harp,

The D-A also
claims James Grimm
falsely accused his
landlord of poisoning
the cats.
News 12 made
several attempts to
reach The Grimms and
their attorney for
comment.
But our calls
were not returned.
