The Telfer MSC Research internship is really a window
into what this degree can let you do within the field
of health research.
It provides you a semester’s worth of hands-on experience working with established
researchers in an area of healthcare that you’re interested in.
Because it doesn’t have to be directly related to your thesis,
you get an opportunity to look at a second area of care.
So for example, although my research for my thesis
will be in palliative care, I did my internship looking at physician
engagement in primary care.
Your supervisor will help you find a topic that
you’re interested in and you’re encouraged
to go wherever that opportunity is.
I was looking for a program that really focused on healthcare rather
than one specific method of analysis and the
Telfer MSC program has that.
It’s flexible.
There are different people studying completely different areas
of the healthcare system using completely different methods
of analysis which makes sense because you can’t look at healthcare
through only one lens.
I also really like the different components of the program.
You start off broad based with course work then gain
hands-on experience through your internship and,
finally, you are able to focus in and use everything you’ve learned for your thesis work.
