Anchor>> Providing state of the art equipment.. and saving jobs.. all thanks to additional
funding coming to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf as part of the federal spending
bill. Senator Chuck Schumer was in Rochester this afternoon to announce the money. This
brings the total funding for NTID from 62-million dollars.. to over 66-million dollars. Schumer
says the money is critical for NTID.. which now employs about one-thousand people in our
area. It'll help pay for new technology.. and it
will also help save students money! Schumer>> Most importantly, for the students,
the increase in funding will allow NTID to keep tuition affordable this year. Tuition
increases are the most likely offset to a decline in federal funding so the fact that
we're getting more money keeps tuition down. Anchor>> Senator Schumer says 22 jobs at NTID
were cut because of sequestration last year... this money will help to ensure this does not
happen again.
