Hi Guys. Dean Goranites here from the Book Reviewers Club, bringing you the new children's
book by Julia Dweck and Fian Arroyo
titled Eville USA - Where Monsters and Zombies Come to Play. It's out just in time
for Halloween and I think this a great book
for the classroom or for your children to read. It's currently titled for
about the writing reading level for
six years old and up. Obviously, if your child's a good reader, then he could be a little
bit younger than that. But there's a lot of fun and a lot of entertainment in here.
Basically, the story revolves around the fictional city of EVille, USA
and this is where monsters go on vacation -- it's a convention that they go to
to celebrate all things monster. And the book is pretty funny,
especially for little kids. I've worked in day care centers before and I know
this is exactly the kind of stuff that gets kids laughing
out loud. The book starts with describing monsters
when they're being raised. So you know, it tells us about how monster mommies
love their little children to be as bratty as possible and how when they
get older, their talking in class should be very rude and repulsive until they graduate
and learn how to be real monsters in real life. Then once a year,
they go to EVille,
which is the city in which this convention takes place.
Even more monster hijinks happen
at this convention. So there's
competition -- sort of like a monster's Olympics, where you win by cheating.
There's a trophy case that always has to be restocked because the monsters love to
steal the first place trophies. All sorts of that fun stuff, and it's all
accompanied by a rhyming sing-song structure, again
just like the last of Julie's work that I reviewed.
It's really fun and enjoyable stuff and
I think it's a great
time for kids, especially this time of year.
It's going for $2.99 on Amazon and it's actually free
to borrow on a Prime Membership, if you have that, so
you really can't beat the price either way.
Like I said with her past review (Pie-rits).
Even if your kid doesn't really love it, I mean- $2.99 -- what do you got to lose?
I don't think that's the case here. I think this is the kind of stuff that kids
are - you know - going to ask you to read
over and over at night, and it's great to be on the iPad because kids love
technology these days -- whether you're working through the iPad or
Kindle Fire
...whatever tablet you're using.
Really good stuff. Really recommended it for you and your kids. Check it out. And until next time...
