Newspaper Source
One of the Research Databases offered at Matheson Library is EBSCOhost’s Newspaper Source.
Newspaper Source contains 35 national and international newspapers, 375 regional newspapers,
as well as TV and radio transcripts. To Access Newspaper Source, select EBSCOhost
on the library homepage. Next, click on EBSCOhost Web.
Scroll down to Newspaper Source. Let’s conduct a search on “education and
dropout rates.” This search locates the words “education”
and “dropout rates” 639 times. You will notice that not all of the entries are available
full-text. To limit to full-text, you can click on Advanced
Search and click in the box to the right of Full Text.
Advanced Search also allows you to limit by date, to Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) publications,
to a specific publication, and/or add an additional keyword.
To access the article, simply click on the title of the article or the full text link.
The citation information (author, title, source, and accession number) is listed at the top.
If you already have a citation and want to locate the article, you can click on Publications
located in the upper left-hand corner. This feature allows you to either type in
the name of your publication or click on the letter of the alphabet that the publication
begins with. You can then click on the date of the publication
which will take you to a list of the articles that are available for that date.
Once you have located an article, you can print the article, save it to a disk, or
e-mail it. Also, if you click on the yellow sheet of paper in the upper right hand corner
of the citation information, Newspaper Source will show you have to cite the article, or
it will allow you to export it to a bibliographic manager such as EndNote, ProCite, or Reference
Manager.
