Hi, my name is Windy St.George and this is how to give a newborn a sponge bath. Before
your newborn's umbilical stump falls off, you're going to need to give your newborn
sponge baths. Its best to just expose one part of the body at the time so that your
baby doesn't get cold. You lay her on any sort of waterproof table, your diaper changing
pad is probably best. So you would do one part after another and be careful of the umbilical
cord stump, just leave it alone, don't put any alcohol or anything on it and then slowly
unveil other parts of the baby's body until you've given the entire body a full wash.
For the first week, you'll just be using warm water and a soft cloth. Don't use soap. The
baby doesn't need it at this point and it could irritate the skin if you weren't able
to rinse it off fully.
