Sustain-A-Bowl is a residence hall with the on-campus students and it will pit halls against
halls within the different residence hall areas, so the hill, the quad, and the village,
and it's a competition to see which halls can reduce their energy use and their water
use the most in addition to recycle the most. So, they'll be taking quantities of the recycling
from each area and kind of totaling them up and seeing who's, you know, doing better per
capita.
This year we decided to switch it to the fall semester and I think that's probably one of
our newest and best chosen differences we have and that's kind of to facilitate the
idea of creating good habits from the beginning. It's easier to start with a good habit than
to break a bad habit and, you know, have to fix it, so we're trying to instill those good
habits, those good ideas, those good practices, from the beginning.
The green game is the football game against Miss. St. and that's where we're going to
have a focus on recycling on campus and different things you can do as a tailgater, as a football
fan, or just as an Auburn person, to be more green on campus. You'll see a lot of the recycling
aspects of the Sustain-A-Bowl will be in effect during the green game, and I think that's
one of the best ones b/c football is something that the Auburn Family knows all about, you
know, it's something that we all love and I think that being able to get the green game
and get the sponsorship with all the different great organizations on campus is awesome because
it shows that we're all in or we're all about the sustainability idea and that's our focus
for that game. So, I would say that's probably the coolest event we have so far, but we also
have great events like the e-cycle event where you can go and recycle your old electronics
and different kinds of hall events the RAs will do. They're always great and inventive
and fun.
