I'm Norman Jay, NBE from the Goodtime Soundsystem in London.
And right here and now I'm in San Juan Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
Bacardi has commissioned this project to enable three
UK breakthrough acts to create a unique take on Anglo-
Latin American music.
And I guess my role with the guys making the music
is to try and ensure that they don't just take a Latin beat, particularly
like a rumba beat and just stick it on the end of
something they would normally make.
I'm Ben Pistor and I'm Damien Martin and we do a club in
London called Disco Bloodbath.
My name is Alex produced under the name Reso.
I'm Untold, I make Dubstep music or bass music.
The project involves two parts basically, first is this
trip where it appears we are to soak up with the local culture,
local music.
To vibe by the rumba which Bacardi has a lot of
links with.
To try to get the flavour of that, get the rhythms, get the groove,
get the feel of that.
And then we go back to London and produce a track and bringing
some of our flavour to what we've absorbed here.
The lifestyle, the attitude, the warmth, and I guess the spirit
of Latin America which is embodied by the Bacardi brand.
We had an amazing tour of the Bacardi distillery and got to sample
a lot of the products which was very enjoyable.
It was really fun we got to learn how to make some cocktails, like
mojitos and stuff.
I enjoyed that because I got to drink them.
And it basically gave them a sense of the history and the grandeur of the
such a drink.
Yesterday we went and checked out the Old Towne of San Juan.
Ducked into a couple bars, got some drinks.
And just walked around and saw wicked things like
some natty little bars, that were really fun to hang out in.
I particularly loved what was going on in the Latin room. There was this
kind of spirit of festival and dance. And it really made you want to
get up off your seat and take part of it and I nearly did.
After the trip, we get back in, we've got two weeks to put a track together.
I'm not entirely sure whether I'll try to make a Dubstep track or a
funky thing. Not sure I’ll have to see what happens when I sit down.
By taking the rumba and mixing it up with different ingredients
and pollinating hopefully a new sound, well that’s what I’m going to certainly
be trying to do.
Bacardi has been involved in parties for as long as one
can remember and I think its the chosen drink of party
sophisitcates the world over.
Its all well and good watching videos or listening to
it but to see someone doing it live in front of you, you can't beat it.
So I'm really glad I came, I'm quite chuffed.
