Following on from my previous blog, The Pros and Cons of Video Hosting Sites to the
Online Marketeer.
I've done another video, this time looking at youtubes analytics page and what features they've added.
Youtube have announced on the official youtube creators blog that
they will soon be changing the way videos are ranked in their search engine
If you or your videos have ever fallen victim to the stumble upon effect you will know
that when building up traffic on your video page, these hits
last up to the time the visitor hits the stumble button,
meaning deceiving analytics for those who want to know the extent visitors are really extent this is a really interacting with
interacting with their content.
the majority of the time, visitor will be on your page for a matter of seconds
This is what Youtube wants to address with their new analytics changes.
On Thursday 11th October, Youtube added the time watched statistic
to the analytics page.
This ongoing process will have an impact on Youtube search
similar to the heat mapping statistics on Wistia, it will allow you to see
what is and isn't working with your clip, a great feature for the business orientated video maker.
For online marketeers who intend for their Youtube content to go viral
this is a great way to get your videos to the top of the search page.
However, it may mean a change in tactics for the online marketeers who
originally uploaded short, snappy, content in order to receive a high number of hits.
Youtube is actually encouraging businesses to create longer, more engaging content top optimise
with the changing ranking system.
In my previous blog, I discussed the amount of Youtube visitors who get distracted
by the unprofessional amount of content on the site leading to what is
essentially stronger content being ignored.
This is a step in the opposite direction for Youtube as
they now intend to get people engaged and sharing with the online community in order
to get professionally made content to the top of the ranking system and out to
the masses.
Follow this and your videos may not get ignored for much longer.
As a digital content producer i'm extremely excited see what effect this
has on the Youtube community which watch up to an estimated for billion hour of
content per month.
The amount of increasing time spent watching videos will hopefully lead to
stronger content on Youtube, challenging the online marketeer in engaging this
huge audience.
