Hi this is Gary Zier for Expert Village middle cards are far more important strategically
then no cards or face cards cause they could be used in more sets or rums. The 7 could
be used in more combinations then any other value in the deck. For example aces although
they have a low point value and are good for knocking could only form a rum with a ace,
2, and a 3 combination. But the 7 can be used with a 5 or 6, 6 or 8, 8 or 9 and even longer
runs. Be aware of your opponents availability to under cut you ti is more common if the
game is getting closer to the bottom of the pile where more turns has been giving the
player more opportunities to get low valued dead wood cards. When the game is in middle
about half way through the stock pile the decisions to knock or wait for a gin should
be made by determining how many cards are still in the stock pile that can give you
a gin hand. If only one card in the whole pile can make a gin hand for you then it might
be better to knock. One of the most important strategy is to try and knock early even though
you get a bonus of 20 points for a gin hand it is more harder to get a gin hand it takes
a lot longer and don't forget for knocking you would get a 20 points bonus for winning
the hand.
