what's going on you guys my name is Stephan and you are watching audio
addiction today we're gonna be looking at the band Rage Against the Machine now
like I said in my past video the Rage Against the Machine along with the likes
of Red Hot Chili Peppers were bands in the 90s that helped really shape and
diverge on the rock and roll scene in the 90s with Red Hot Chili Peppers going
this funk rock route Rage Against the Machine would be on the more heavier rap
rock style more known today as new metal again much like to the Red Hot Chili
Peppers Rage Against the Machine was a band that was formed in 1991 in Los
Angeles California the group would consist of four main parts Zack de la
Rocha Tom Morello Brad Willik and Tim Commerford now their first performance
which is quite significant when you think about it was on October 23rd 1991
in California State University playing the songs that would soon to be on their
12 song cassette tape this cassette album of their 12 songs would soon be
developed further into their first studio album and why I mean that their
first performance was quite significant was because it was a very politically
charged album and colleges universities of young minds and young people are
usually the bedrock of social change in this debut album is are you
really one of the most politically charged albums ever in music history and
this self-titled debut album will go on to become a triple platinum album now
their significance although there are very great band one of the they have one
of my favorite guitarists out there Tom Morello their popularity and cult-like
status is is really just up happenstance their rise to prominence due to the fact
that are very politically charged band in a very tumultuous time during their
careers they would live through the likes of September 11 and with this
politically charged music would help to make the bubbling
cauldron that was social change in America to a boil and it's just the raw
energy behind this bed I mean Zack de la Rocha is vocals are so angry and so full
of life that it really wants to incite that inner rebel in you in taking the
inspirations of groups like Public Enemy we help really push this genre of new
metal forward with songs like killing in the name of and we cannot forget the
work the great guitarist tom morello and his style of playing his version of
metal is just so innovative really pushes that that that music genre
forward I know I keep on saying that but this band was very very progressive in
its in its style of rock and roll something that's very very interesting
considering that rock at that point is about three decades old and a genre
that's 30 years old you'd really think that most of the style of music has been
done using every part of that guitar including the feedback the toggle
control and the various uses of guitar effects makes his guitar playing one of
the most unique in the music scene one of the most notable uses of Tom
Morello's guitar work would be off the lead single of their debut album know
your enemy the the intro consists of this the toggle switch a lot of it a lot
of it considers to be use of like a kill switch actually my guitar has a kill
switch this button right here the way it works is that Tom Morello would have two
pickups on a guitar one would be fully on with the volume up the other one
would be off and once you toggle the switch back and forth
it turns the song sound off and on I hope I'm making it sound a little more
understanding but with that effect done very fast you have this very very
interesting sound that you hear in know your enemy and these techniques really
really draw upon the roots of genre that doesn't really have a place in heavy
metal and that djay these techniques when you really
think about it and when you really listen to Tom Morales works really
replicate the sound of a deejay and with the the work of Tom Morello we start to
see bands like Linkin Park or Slipknot even incorporating the use of an actual
DJ into their music that further develops this new metal heavy metal
sound into the realm of electronic music there's no saying the ramifications of
Rage Against the Machine is there their words in there salt and still speak
volumes in today's society I think even more so and that kind of lyrics still
tremor today and I believe for the years to come and that's all for today you
