[Music] Hello and welcome to the Buffalo & Erie County
Public Library’s online tutorial on Pinterest: Creating Boards and Pins. You will be unable
to perform any of the activities in this video without having an active Pinterest account.
Please view our past Pinterest video to learn how to setup an account.
Making a board is fun and easy. Boards are usually specific to a certain topic of interest.
For instance, in this example, I will be creating a board about cupcakes. The first step of
creating a board will be to log into your Pinterest account.
After you have logged in, you click the “Add +” button located at the top of the screen.
A pop up will appear. Click on “Create a board.” A new pop up comes into view asking
you to create a name for your board. We will call our board “Cupcakes.” You then select
a category that relates to your topic. For us it will be “Food & Drink.”
Then, you are able to select whether or not this board will be secret or public. A secret
board is viewable only to yourself, while a public board can be searched by other individuals.
The next question is asking who else can add content to your board. It is suggested that
you do not allow anyone else to add content to your board.
Once you have finished, you will select “Create.” Your board is now created and can be edited.
Now that you have created a board, you’ll want to add content to that board by creating
a pin. To create a pin, go back to the “Add +” button located at the top of the screen.
There are two options in relation to creating a pin – adding from web content and uploading.
To create a pin from a website, click “Add a Pin.” A new window will pop up and ask
for a web address. You can type in the web address manually or you can open up the article
in another window, select the entire web address, right-click with your mouse and select “copy,”
go back to Pinterest, place your cursor in the box, right-click again, press “paste,”
and then click “Find Images.” Now Pinterest will show an image from the webpage. By pressing
the “Next” button under the photo, you can select the image you like best. This is
the image which will become a functioning pin on your board, linking viewers to the
recipe blog once selected. Once you have chosen a photograph, you should
make sure you have selected the correct board you wish to place the pin on. You then must
fill in a description of using no more than five hundred characters. Press “Pin It.”
Your pin has been created and placed on your board.
The second way to create a pin is to upload an image from your computer. While this will
create a pin, the pin will not function as a link. Select the “Add +” button. Click
“Upload a Pin.” In the pop up window, click “Choose File.” This will open a
window showing various files from your computer, including photographs. I will upload the photograph
I want by selecting it, and then pressing “Open.” You then make sure you have the
correct board selected and create a description. Press “Pin It.” Your second pin has been
created. Thank you for watching this online tutorial.
