The Henrico County Courthouse was
located along
the East Main Street and Twenty-second Street.
It is a place where there was prosecution of people for alleged offenses.
Gabriel was prosecuted for
attacking
an overseer at the Prosser Plantation,
bitting off but part of his ear.
Gabriel was
prosecuted, he was found guilty
and there's a fine--but of course Gabriel couldn't pay the fine, but Thomas Henry Prosser
would,
his owner had to do that.
There were a continual threats
and there was a bond
of a thousand dollars
to insure
the Gabriel would not do this sort of thing again.
Gabriel had
made clear
his defiance
against the system, against Thomas Henry Prosser, his owner,
and against uh... the laws
of the land.
He was going to continue
to conspire
in order to try to end slavery.
Those who were tried later,
for the attempted rebellion,
were tried at this
courthouse.
