The final part of eyes is using mascara. It's really important to use mascara on stage,
especially if the actor has really light eyelashes. And it's important to use the right colors
as well. You wouldn't use black on someone who has blond hair, but something more of
a brown, maybe a brown-black would be appropriate. Something that they would probably typically
wear during the day. But this is also important for men to wear as well, and you're going
to run into some opposition, but again, tell them that they'll look great on stage. As
long as you're not doing it too heavy as well. Some actors choose to use false eyelashes,
and that's fine too. That creates a really nice effect as long as they're kind of in
the natural realm of what an eyelash would look like. Of course, if they're playing a
more dramatic role, then you can have something that's longer or curlier or even lots of fun
colors. OK, it's really easy to, as the actor is looking forward, sometimes this is intimidating,
because they've got this stick coming towards their eye. So if you hold it close to their
eye, just under and ask them to blink down, you can see that it brushes right through
the comb. And it's not so intimidating to the actor or to the make-up artist because
of course, you don't want to stab them in the eye with it either. A really important
thing to know about mascara as well is it's most important to make sure each actor has
their own mascara because bacteria can spread and that's really dangerous so make sure they
all have their own mascaras. One more thing to remember about using mascara is use it
on the top lashes only, because if you have them on the bottom as well you're going to
get that real spider effect that has nothing to do with looking natural. So just use the
mascara on the top.
