[ENGINE NOISES]
MIKE MUSTO: This is a 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T. It's one of
the baddest cars of the muscle car era.
We just drove this thing 90 miles from Queens, New York,
up to Monticello Motor Club.
Our plan was to take it out there, see how it did, play
with it a little bit and get a feel for it.
The problem is, Mother Nature didn't feel like
cooperating with us.
So thankfully, Monticello has graciously loaned us this.
This is a CTS-V wagon.
And while you may think it's not a muscle car, you'd be
completely wrong.
You see, all the DNA that came from this
guy is right in here--
big honking engines up front, manual transmissions,
rear-wheel drive.
This one tops out at about 150 miles an hour, this one, 190.
So before the rain really comes down, we're going to get
in this, we're going to go out there, and we're going to have
a little fun.
This is Big Muscle on Drive.
[ROCK MUSIC PLAYING]
MIKE MUSTO: We're at the Monticello Motor
Sports Club, which--
I'll be honest--
is probably one of my favorite tracks in the United States.
It's unbelievable.
The circuit has different elevation changes.
You've got a back straight that's simply outstanding.
And it's such a well put-together course.
It'll let you explore the limits of not only the car,
but your skill level, as well.
Now, as I said, that Coronet that we were going to drive--
well, it's raining.
And the last thing that I'm going to do is take out
somebody's $60,000 muscle car in the pouring rain,
especially when that thing does have a solid live axle.
It would be a little sketchy out here, I'm not
going to lie to you.
However, Monticello was kind enough to give us the CTS-V
wagon that we're in now, and it is fantastic.
And what it does is, it gives you the confidence to go out
in a situation like this.
I mean, it's raining a little bit.
We've got a little bit of drizzle, but between the
traction control, the stability control, and
everything else, it's simply unbelievable.
It's such a great car.
Most people don't realize it.
They look at this thing, and they go, what the hell are you
driving a station wagon for?
I'm going, are you kidding me?
The station wagon is a 556-horsepower supercharged V8
that does 190 miles an hour.
I mean, The thing is just outstanding, and it screams.
And if you have it on the street, it's great.
It's a lot of fun, and it's especially fun when you're
pulling up in a wagon, right?
Maybe you have a child seat in the back and you come up next
to a Mustang, a Camaro, or even the odd Cayenne or 911.
The light turns green, and you blow their doors off.
0 to 60 is somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 and 1/2
seconds-- maybe--
I think it's 4.3, actually, top speed of around
190 miles an hour.
I mean, there are very few cars that you could take the
kids to soccer practice in, and then at day's end, go to
the drag strip and rip off like a 12-second
quarter-mile time.
This is one of those cars.
Simply unbelievable.
The acceleration is blistering.
The brakes are fantastic.
You've got these big six-pod Brembos on the front that stop
this thing on a dime.
We're also running on Michelin Pilot Sport on two tires,
which, let me tell you something, in conditions even
like this, they're outstanding.
Going into the corner--
I mean, the steering.
The steering is so nicely weighted.
Back and forth, there's a little bit of body roll, but
nothing to the extent that you would see in
an old muscle car.
Most cars are sprung so tight that it's difficult to throw
them around.
This thing?
Just a work of art.
Really is.
You could go out.
You could get a BMW.
You could get a Mercedes.
Or you can stay true to Big Muscle, and you could go out
and buy a Cadillac CTS-V and just rip everything else on
the road in half.
I flippin' love this thing.
Outstanding.
You've got to be freaking kidding me.
There's somebody that you know very well, and he's behind me.
MATT FARAH: [GERMAN ACCENT]
Let me you to the German war wagon.
Yes.
And I have come to wreck your track day.
This is a 2012 BMW X5M, and it is brilliant.
And I know what you're thinking.
This is a muscle car show, and this is not a muscle car.
But I don't care.
I love this thing.
555 horsepower of twin-turbo all-wheel drive awesome.
It's $97,000, which is not by any means cheap, but it's
about $20,000 cheaper than the Cayenne Turbo, and in my
opinion, a little bit more fun to drive.
Little curbing, not an issue for the X5M.
With this suspension, everything is adjustable.
You can adjust the suspension.
You can adjust the shifts.
You can adjust power or economy.
You can adjust the traction control in
three different ways.
And even though it's an automatic transmission, you do
get launch control, which is brilliant, enabling this car
to hit 60 miles an hour in just over 4 seconds with a
recovering top speed of 155.
If it was ungoverned, believe you me, this thing has 180 in
it all day long.
There is nothing--
nothing--
like a private racetrack, and Monticello Motor Club is my
favorite private racetrack.
This is hands down the best place to drive a car in the
Northeastern United States.
And oh, by the way, I can show up and race here whenever I
damn well please.
So thank you, Jesus.
Thank you, Jesus.
And don't get me wrong--
I love the CTS-V wagon.
But we're going on one lap together, and we might
encounter some wet weather conditions.
But when you're going on a road trip that involves
racing, you want space.
You want comfort.
Some of these guys do Bullrun in one lap in Ferraris.
They're insane.
I'm getting a butt massage right now.
Underneath is about the same stuff as the X6M, except it's
prettier and more practical.
And with it, I can drive right up the *** of a
CTS-V on a wet racetrack.
Oh, is this thing fast.
Here we go, 70--
there's 80.
90--
there's 100.
MIKE MUSTO: Doing 100, 105, 110, 115.
MATT FARAH: How about 110?
Yes, 120, oh yes.
[LAUGHTER]
[ENGINES REVVING]
MIKE MUSTO: Oh, yes.
And he is desperately trying to get us.
Unfortunately, because of these wind conditions, I think
he's about to.
MATT FARAH: JF keep saying he wants
cooperation between the shows.
This is not cooperation.
This is me beating Mike Musto on a racetrack right now.
MIKE MUSTO: Oh my god.
MATT FARAH: Yes.
I'm going to do one more lap just to ensure victory.
What a great day at the office.
Yeah, buddy.
I think I have shown the man what is up with
the SUV, fo' sheezy.
MIKE MUSTO: Son of a ***.
MATT FARAH: And now, back to Big Muscle.
MIKE MUSTO: So the day's finally come to an end here at
Monticello Motor Club.
It's been a fabulous afternoon.
Granted, the rain kind of came and screwed us up a little
bit, because we weren't able to take the
Coronet out on the track.
But Monticello is great.
They gave us a CTS-V wagon to take out and fly.
It really doesn't get much better than that.
We were having a great time until Matt Farah decided to
show up and screw with us a little bit.
This is the car we really wanted to drive, and we're
going to get a chance to.
And you're going to see this in an upcoming episode, so
have no fear.
But right now, it's time to go.
I got a 90 mile drive back to New York, and I'm tired.
So see you next time on Big Muscle on Drive.
[CAR STARTING]
[ROCK MUSIC PLAYING]
MIKE MUSTO: And we don't want to slide off the track and
kill the car and/or us.
MATT FARAH: How you feeling?
Isn't this fun?
This thing hauls ***, right?
Turn this off, my *** is roasting.
I'll let that cool down for a minute.
MIKE MUSTO: I mean, simply unbelievable for a car--
well, not for a car, for a station wagon.
Just feel that acceleration!
Oh, [BLEEP].
