My name is Dr. Jim Van Keuren, Dean of Dwight Schar College of Education for Ashland University.
We're pretty excited about a recent NCATE, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education visit,
where we met all six standards,
putting us as one of the elite institutions in higher education across the country.
We've been accredited with NCATE since the early 1970's,
and this was just again affirmation of the way we handle education at our college and at the university.
The next NCATE visit will be 2016, and we're well prepared for that visit also.
We had over three hundred participants in our accreditation process that included
faculty members, adjunct faculty members,
community members, undergraduate students, graduate students,
and even the mayor of Ashland city was directly involved.
The thrust of our programs, we have over 30 programs that service
the undergraduate student population,
graduate student population, post-baccalaureate student population,
and we have a doctoral program in Educational Leadership Studies that was verified also.
We've met all standards, all six standards,
for Initial Teacher Preparation, and Advanced Teacher Preparation,
which is the first time in the history of the school
that we were designated meeting all standards without any areas of improvement.
What this does is put us on a national level as being an elite program in the country,
and it also gives us the opportunity to improve, even though we've met all standards.
We're looking at using the NCATE study to focus on part of our strategic plan,
as we prepare for the upcoming academic year.
This just signifies the quality of student that we have in our program,
the quality of the faculty member that are a part of the program,
and how faculty members and students are working together
to make this the best college in the country.
I do have to note that we have over a hundred students involved in the accreditation process,
through interviews, both undergraduate and graduate,
which is a compliment on our student population.
Community members are directly involved, and as I said before, faculty members and adjunct faculty members.
So, we're really proud of the outcome and we believe that if the student is looking at
Ashland University and the Dwight Schar College of Education,
they're going to receive a top-notch education during their four years with us.
