2800 of them moved in the place they're going to call home for the next year
A hard day for moms and dads out there as well 13 WHAM's Alexis Arnold spoke to
new students and their parents
who came from all across the country even the world to go to RIT.

Well, students did come from near and far - as close as New York State, some as
far as South America
All have the same goals getting a good education meeting new people
and looking forward to their new found freedom

Virginia native Debra Bridges Louis packed their family's minivan with all the
essentials for a 1st child headed to college.

>>I've had my eye on it for a few years now and I'm really glad I got accepted
Got a nice bit of scholarship money and it's a dream come true to be able to go here

away, he says he still plans to keep in touch with mom and dad
>>Well I've got 2 computers up here so I have Skype phone calls and texting
>>Some students are coming from a different time zone and climate and will
have to get used more than just the freshman 15
>>I hear it is going to get really cold up here. >>Are you ready for that?
>>Um... I packed - I think I've got my hunting gear here so...
we probably get about two or three days a year as below freezing so
things are going to be different this year. >>It took Adrian Cruiset at two flights to
get here from Peru
>>It's one to atlanta like 6-7 hours and another one to here, like 2-3 hours
>> He says he chose RIT for better opportunities, better
than in his home country.

I believe we have a beautiful campus and I believe here I could meet nice people

many students say they'll take advantage of the new climate. Our boy from
Arkansas who we talked to - he's gonna go ice fishing. Classes start Monday
