Classes started and in most cases it will be your responsibility to get hold
of the books that you need for class.
You could go to the campus bookstore in the M-Building basement to buy a
copy of the book. They also rent books which would cost less but you'd
have to return it to the end of the semester.
You could also buy your books online from the College bookstore's website or
any other online bookstore like Amazon. Just give yourself enough time to get a
hold of the book.
The college bookstore will also sell electronic versions of the text
books.
Not all of them but some of them are available that way for various devices.
If you wanted to borrow a book you would go to the Library. The Library doesn't have
enough copies to give to everybody but they have copies that
are shared by the class. In the Library textbooks are kept on
reserve behind the main circulation desk.
Reserve texh books can only be used for two hours in the Library.
They can't be taken home. Some of them are on available for three-day
loan, which means you could take it home for three days.
To find out what books you need to have, look on your syllabus or look
on the class Blackboard page or any other class website. Or you can
search on the college bookstore's website and search by course number or
section number.
Different sections have different professor's. They often use
different books.
If you go to the Library's website and click on Find books, the
Library catalog allows you to search for the book that way as well.
Now in order to buy the book
you'd go to the College bookstore's website, you'd go to the store or you
can also look online. CUNY has provided a nice page with links to the
bottom online bookstores and price comparison engines.
PostingBlock is an online version of the bulletin board where students
sell books that they've
used in previous semesters.
When you borrowed the book in the Library just ask for the book by the
name of the book at the main circulation desk
and keep in mind that Library reserve books can only be used for two hours at
a time, can't be taken out of the Library. Three-day loan books can be taken home
for three days. Regular loan books can be taken out for three weeks.
These are usually going to be the older edition of textbooks or plays,
novels or other books that are going to be used to support your
research. If you have any questions make sure you ask us in the Library!
