Dan Kanter, musical director
and lead guitarist for Justin Bieber, visited his alma mater,
York University. He recently participated in York University's
this is my time campaign and shared how his time at York University
has helped his career. >>> My studies at York
definitely helped me with what I'm doing professionally now.
When I studied at York University, I wasn't just studying performance
or composition, I was studying everything and how they all connect
together
So I was studying music in history,
I was working on music with film students, music with dance students.
Really just learning to collaborate and
appreciate all those different kinds of Fine Arts. My best experiences at York
were studying with two professors.
In particular, one is Matt Vanderwoude second is professor Rob Bowman
They've really change my life
academically and looking at music and studying music.
Studying with them and their passion for music and
especially the music that I that I love
really had a huge influence on me. Well, it's very exciting
at York. Firstly that the subway is finally coming to York. That's a huge thing.
But really, it's exciting to see at York and
particularly in the arts program, how
they're really forward thinking. It's not just
traditionally studying theory
and composition, which is you know the important structure for studying music,
but also looking ahead and and studying Digital Media
and really collaborating with other parts of Fine Arts like like media,
and film, theatre, dance. Every day I'm
part of the team that's conceptualizing up
live performance where we all have to work together and everyone has to
know music, know choreography and a little bit of
film. So it really did help me.
