Now if you start getting gigs, one of the things that you're going to be needing to
do from the very beginning is thinking about how to make your gigs better. There's always
room for improvement, I don't think that you will find any artist that you could talk to
who'd say that they have ever played the perfect gig. Sometimes we have gigs that are just
absolutely amazing and they're great but you can pretty much always find something to say,
you know what I'm going to do that a little bit different next time. So the first part
of that is what I call is you need to be ruining your enjoyment for the sake of the sake of
you performance. Sometimes you even ruin other people’s enjoyment for the sake of your
performance. I know it sounds really selfish, but what I'm talking about is that when you
are watching somebody else play a live music show, do some sort of a live performance,
take note. Did I just see U2 on Saturday Night Live you know a couple of years ago and Bono
man he grabbed the microphone and he ran out into the crowd and he ran around and got everybody
to give him a high five as he ran around the crowd. And I thought like right there, I thought
man that guy is amazing at drawing in the crowd. I took note, now did I just you know,
sort of put it on and do it the next time? No not necessarily but what I'm saying is
that I was analyzing his performance. I might of enjoyed it, but I didn't just sort of stay
in the moment and go whoa this is awesome, I thought how could I apply this to me. So
you need to be aware of what other people are doing, so that you can take elements from
what they do, not to change your message, but to actually improve your show.
