Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety
and Kentucky State Police recently recognized new pledges to Kentucky’s HERO Campaign
for Designated Drivers. The recognition ceremonies took place during halftime of University of
Kentucky and University of Louisville basketball games. The HERO Campaign’s mission is to
end drunk-driving fatalities, injuries and crashes by promoting driving sober or using
a designated driver. The HERO Campaign was inspired by Ensign John Elliott, who shortly
after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy was killed by a drunken driver. Ensign Elliott
had been named the Outstanding HERO of his graduating class, and was preparing to enter
naval flight officer school. To learn more about the HERO Campaign, or to take the designated
driver pledge, log onto kentuckyheroes.org. Why not be a HERO by serving as a designated
driver? This has been your KYTC Minute. Visit us every Thursday for updated information.
