I'm Cathy Harrison, my partner is Kris Anderson, and this is our family. We like to do a lot
of the same things - we both garden, we both love New Mexico, a la, the reason why we have
a retirement home down there. Our weekends are spent gardening. We have gardens we've
been remodeling some of the gardening areas, we've been working on the house. We like to
go to parks and go on walks, and take the dog to the dog parks. One of my biggest fears
is that I don't have family here - my family are in Texas. So if anything were to happen
where I would need someone to make decisions for me, I don't have anybody here who could
do that. And marriage, or civil unions, or civil rights - for us to be able to have those
kinds of rights that everyone else has, they're very important. Marriage is important to may
people - it's a beautiful commitment to make to each other and there's lots of ways to
do that. I think couples are the same no matter what. I mean, you have disagreements like
everyone else, you discuss the budget you discuss what you're going to do to repair
your home or remodel or whatever, so I don't see any differences - I see a lot of similarities
in my families. I think it's important for people to understand that everyday we do the
same things everyone else does. I don't see what the fear is of our ability to be married
and have the same rights as anyone else. it's telling families like mine that we can never
be equal in this country - in our state basically as well as in our country - which is very
sad. People fall in love. It doesn't really matter who you fall in love with - it could
be a man, it could be a woman. To me, this is where I belong.
