Hello and welcome to this look at creating a word search activity in Vocabulary Worksheet Factory 5.
The word search is just one of 20 vocabulary building activities that you can create from a single word list.
We start by selecting Word Search from the list of word list activities.
A new document is created along with a new word search activity.
Currently the word search is using a sample list of 10 words.
If we select Show Key we can view the current layout of hidden words.
And we can change that layout at any time by simply selecting Generate Activity.
It is also possible to hide the words in more directions. Select Search Directions in the Word
Search options pane and check our preferred directions.
And we'll click Generate Activity a few times to see some of the possible layouts.
Below the word search is our word bank.
We can add a degree of difficulty to our word search by using the Word Jumbles option in the Word Bank options.
For example we can display the letters of the words in reverse order.
For now we'll leave the words unjumbled.
We can also make the word search more challenging by displaying clues in place of the word bank.
Turn the word bank off,
and turn the clues on.
To select a different word list to work with we select Edit Word List at the top of the options pane.
In the Word List editor we can create, edit, or open word lists.
We'll open the Deserts word list from the set of starter lists that come with the program.
And click OK.
There are a lot of options you can use to change the appearance of your word search. Let's look at a few of them.
The deserts list has 25 words. Currently we're only using 10 of those words. So let's increase that to 20.
And then we'll increase the size of the grid to 24 columns by 16 rows.
And increase the square size to 30.
And change the word search shape to Frame.
Add coordinates.
Change the case of the letters to lowercase.
And, finally, generate new layouts a few times to find one we like.
And that's the basics of creating a word search in Vocabulary Worksheet Factory 5.
Select a word list, change a couple of options, and you can be printing out a word search to
provide a fun activity to support your vocabulary lessons in seconds.
