My name is Mike Jones, and I'm a barista at Third Rail Coffee right by Washington Square
Park in New York City. I'm going to teach you some basic coffee-making skills.
How do you keep coffee beans fresh? You want to keep them in an air tight container away
from direct sunlight and at a room temperature environment. You also want to drink it within
3 to 14 days. You can have coffee at home for up to a month, or even longer but you'll
definitely—there'll be a noticeable diminishing of flavor as it goes on. As far as storing
ground coffee, I would recommend, first of all, that you get a grinder at home. You can
get hand grinders for 30 to 40 dollars. It makes such a vast improvement how your coffee
tastes that, it's almost a no-brainer investment I would say. But if you do get coffee ground,
I would definitely drink it within five days otherwise it would just be really stale tasting.
