This is the first Online Multiplayer Battle ever uploaded for Panthers in the Fog
and I really want to talk about this game
because it's the latest edition of the Close Combat Series and the newest edition to my collection.
So I really want to give you my first impressions of this game.
My opponent's name is Hetser. He's a user on the CloseCombatSeries forums
and he's experienced with multiplayer. But I don't think he's played in a while
so he's a bit rusty. And I'm experienced with close combat single player
but relatively new to multiplayer, and very new to this edition of the series.
So it's going to be a very even match, I think, today.
I'm going to be setting up on the defensive, you can see that here
with observational forces deployed south
I thought I was on the defensive, but I was meant to be attacking
so I'll be skipping ahead to the action shortly. It's my own fault
I didn't read the operational briefing "Newbee Mistake" but it gives me an advantage later.
So, yeah I'm just going to skip ahead now. There we go.
So, what are my thoughts on Panther's in the Fog?
I like it. I think it's a step in the right direction.
I've been playing Close Combat since 1997, I own several of the games, and to be honest,
I'm worried about the series. I think it's struggling.
And I think if the makers keep giving us the same 2D graphics they have been doing
we're not going to get any new players, and the series will fade away.
And I don't want that to happen, if I'm honest
Luckily though, I think Panther's in the Fog had addressed that issue
as in: the graphics - they have sorted that out
Now I have noticed several problems, one major
but I'm going to reserve my thoughts on the gameplay and the rest of it
until I've had a little more time with the game.
I will be doing a full review sometime soon, so please click the subscribe button on the screen
if you want to be informed when that video's uploaded.
But as far as the look and feel of this game goes; I really like it.
And I'm not somebody who demands the latest graphics in a game
So long as the gameplay's great, I don't really care to be honest about graphics.
But when I first opened this game and saw the maps and the units and explosion effects...
I was deeply impressed. In fact, I was in awe.
This game looks really nice.
It is by far the best looking game in the Close Combat Series
and, as I say, I think this is is a step in the right direction.
Just look at the tanks. The buildings. The trees.
And you can see the curves in the land.
You can see ridges and dips in the earth
and it's a lot easier to get a feel for the terrain
The smoke and the explosion effects, and they're brilliant
you'll see them in a bit
and when you call for an artillery barriage, I actually feel sorry for the enemy
because it looks just as devastating, and it actually is devastating as well - which is great as well
But the absolute best improvement that they've made, in my opinion, to this game, is the colours.
What I mean by that is: the colour palette that they chose, gives me hope for the future.
Just look at the grass. It's green. The trees are green.
Sounds stupid, but they are green!
Sounds stupid, but they are green!
I can see blues and reds and yellows
And it's not like they're all horrible shades - they're all nice shades of those colours.
Let me put this into context - when I play Close Combat 5 or Last Stand Arnhem, it depresses me.
Everything in those games is either grey, a shade of grey, or a dingy brown colour.
I'm not being funny, I know war is terrible and all that.
But war is terrible no matter where it's fought.
Let me give you an example: I've been to Greece; it's a lovely country.
And yeah, wars have been fought there for several millennia but that doesn't take away the fact that it's a lovely country.
And it's the same with Close Combat: war is evil - we all know that
And it's the same with Close Combat: war is evil - we all know that
but that doesn't mean the map we're fighting on has to be dull and dingy.
And the maps in Panthers in the Fog look good, they have the right colour palette, and are inviting.
This is what the series needs, in my opinion.
This is what the series needs, in my opinion.
It's a great look, with warm, inviting, and attractive maps.
That's how you attract new players and keep players playing.
So I think that's a real step in the right direction.
Regardless of other issues with this game, you cannot deny that this game looks good.
That's what the makers wanted to do, and that's what they did.
They made this game look and feel great.
And so well done Matrix Games, I'm impressed.
And so well done Matrix Games, I'm impressed.
And just to put that into context, that's the first ever compliment I've ever given to that company.
So... there you go, it might be the last. But nonetheless it's the first compliment
And I've given them quite a lot of criticism, but yeah, the first compliment to Matrix Games.
So, well done Matrix Games.
And I hope you can see this properly on youtube
Because it might not be the best quality, but what I'm seeing on my screen
is really really good quality gameplay, and really good quality maps.
Yeah, really nice.
Hetser only has a couple of tanks here
so he's sending one around to the right to take a couple of victory locations.
And because of my observational forces there, I know where he's trying to move.
And because of my observational forces there, I know where he's trying to move.
So I send my tanks around to the left
And I'm trying to take that Southern victory location and possibly destroy his forces
But time is against me here so
If I had had that extra 8 minutes or so at the beginning
I think I would have done both those things
Take that victory location, and destroy his forces.
So, top tip for everyone out there, read the operational briefing before you start a battle.
Because knowing if you're attacking or not, really helps.
So there you go.
So far, I'll say that I'm enjoying Panthers in the Fog.
Under the graphics, it's a typical Close Combat game, so why wouldn't I enjoy it?
I've decided, I think - for the next few weeks at least
to concentrate a little more on Panthers for my multiplayer battles
just while I finish off my Let's Play for Close Combat 3.
Plus I'll get more experience with the game, and allow me to do the
review. So, I really need to play this game a bit more.
As I say, I will be doing a full review of Panthers sometime soon
so please be sure to check that out, and please be sure to check out my channel if you haven't already.
And for those of you who care, the next Let's Play video
for Close Combat 3: The Russian Front will be up on Monday sometime
so be sure to pop back then to check it out.
AND I want to know what people think about Panthers, because this is a big issue.
Have you bought the game?
If so, what do you think about it?
If so, what do you think about it?
I bought this game, I think it's a good game.
And I'm happy with it.
And I'm happy with it.
But I know some people out there haven't bought the game.
And if you haven't, what's putting you off from buying it?
I think the improved graphics (and colour) are both a step in the right direction, but do you agree?
I want to hear from you, and I'm sure you want to know what other people think about this too.
So share your thoughts, I'll read them, I'll comment too.
And if you want to tell me how bad I am at this game, feel free to do so.
And if you want to tell me how bad I am at this game, feel free to do so.
Look at the explosion on that tank: that was beautiful
Absolutely beautiful. I honestly cannot deny that they've done a really good job with this game.
I cannot say that they've messed up the graphics, at least. It's really really nice.
Absolutely beautiful really.
Good game to my opponent as well.
he did the best he could with the limited forces he had available.
I'm not sure if he had two, or maybe three tanks, but it wasn't a lot.
And against all of my panzers he wasn't going to have much chance.
And against all of my panzers he wasn't going to have much chance.
Again, if I had an extra 8 minutes at the beginning I might have encircled his forces.
But it wasn't meant to be.
I'll be bringing you another Multiplayer battle soon
Against Hetser, and Hetser gets a lot of tanks, and a real battle ensues.
So stay tuned for that.
Hope you've enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. Please be sure to subscribe if you haven't already.
And comment below. Cheers for watching, bye for now.
