welcome back to the David Pakman show joining me is Steve Siebold author
love sex politics religion how delusional thinking
is destroying America %uh Steve great to have you make the case in the book that
a lack of just basic
critical thinking about some other foremost political issues is really
driving us in the wrong direction
particularly with the politicization a bit of a lot of these issues
but let's go through a couple these one by one if we can and just kinda see
where you think the critical thinking
direction will get us on these I wanna start with health care reform which were
actually awaiting
a supreme court decision on yeah absolutely i mean well then the idea
here is that
week now the delusional thinking as we actually have the money to pay for this
this this crazy
his crazy VAW and we don't obviously we're broke
and to you to have 32 million people uninsured
and and then insurer everyone in the country force everyone to be insured it
to to cover these 32 million
on many of which are really young people on is ridiculous anything in even if it
was a ridiculous
week we don't have the money we're broke and we're gonna bankrupt our grandkids
at this kinda thing hopefully the Springboro unbowed
rule against them see I can understand why you would why
individually you would come to some of those conclusions but the the problem is
okay let's take a look at the insuring young people thing I
if we don't insure young people when they're healthy then they're not going
to be able to get insurance from health insurance companies once they do get say
can evade
inevitably people do get sick so do you
if if that is your point of view do you believe we should just have a
national government health care system like they do in many countries in Europe
for argued are you going the other way kind of the Republican wave saying
we should have a completely market re market-based system
absolutely free market basis to more libertarian point of view I think any
Republican but yeah definitely more toward that
a free and if we're gonna and if we're gonna head to 32 million less than 32
million and Senate 332 million I mean it makes no sense even if we could afford
it
it's on you know it's a it's a it's obviously socialized medicine and now
it's just really reflects the views that the Obama administration and it said
obviously a socialist leanings in at least organization are
you know administration me so what's what's but you your said
we're putting 32 million people into the for-profit health care system
which is mostly the result a corporate funding in corporate influence what
socialist about that well I think the biggest issue here is that nobody
this is this is one the delusions I talk about the book is that is that no one in
this country is denied health care
net they never have been denied health care they never will be you walk into
this
into a hospital of the street and you have no money you will be treated
no that's not true hold on a second let's let's not extra let's think
critically because I know that that's your thing
up there are laws indicating that the the patient has to be stabilized okay
that's legally all that has to happen that doesn't mean
that you are going to get cancer treatment for example just means legally
the hospital has to stabilize you
and or transfer you somewhere where you can be stabilized but that doesn't mean
that you're going to get treatment
but i wanna go back to what you said what socialist about putting 32 million
people
at the mercy of for-profit health insurance companies an additional 32
million people
of socialist at the effect I have been so intense matter if it's
his welfare I mean if it socialized medicine medicine and socialist and it's
a social it's a social Starr
you know floss pierre-paul but little thieves the whole as I get
your the critical thinking that you're telling your defining something a
socialist by saying it socialized medicine you can't define something
the definition for something can't be that which we are defining
what although short list about putting 32 million people
into the for-profit health care system and leading companies with profit as
their motive
decide whether they should or shouldn't have treatments approved copays et
cetera what socialist about that let's not
gone the other way a bit if you're if you're putting them into the system we
have currently it's not and that's where they are now
I just take over here well nobody view it Obamacare's going to mandate
candidate there have to buy insurance I mean there is a for-profit insurance a
poor profit insurance from the for-profit companies what social about
that
its its socials because mandated it's a it's mandated by the government that
socials by definition I mean it's mandated by the government you are
forced to buy
a product in it unconstitutional so the next thing I so some basic thought them
so the republicans who first came up with the individual mandate idea in the
early nineties
their socialist well I that's it that's a
sweeping generalization I wouldn't go that far but I mean I like that but we
have to tho solution he does it
well well no I think it they I'm not saying their social some say
for you say that the that the thing it's that's why I have a problem with the
socialism plans because
many people like to say this a socialist and when you ask them about it
they do what you're doing they say socialism is socialist
or or they equivocate so I have a when I'm thinking critically about it I have
a real problem with it
well yeah okay let me let me explain yaa
okay yeah we what we have sought allies medicine in this country medicaid is
socialism is socialized medicine met
care socialize partially socialized medicine correct social security is a
socialist program its welfare
it's not welfare when it's but its government you know its
government-funded
right you're having to wait and then you get money back yeah exactly exactly so I
mean it's not like we're we're not totally doing this well i'm saying is
is that good for them through the government to come along and mandate and
we buy a product that's
that's so I'm not saying Obama the administration and their social at all
you're not saying that cuz I could have fun on your hair leaning
I said social there leaning toward the socialist philosophy I mean you okay
that's a pretty big statement on a good they're so close but I think everyone
has surprised you made it yet
well yeah well I said leaning I think if the I said leaning I think they mean
toward that ok but
but that's at but Obamacare it to me as I completely socialist program I made I
you know its government to government mandate a product on american is
unconstitutional
I think I think David when I think by Thursday we're gonna get
a decision by the Supreme Court net think they're gonna they're gonna go
against okay sure I don't know how they can get
because I want to get other topics will agree to kinda drop it but again
I would go back to the same question what socialist about putting 32 million
more people into a for-profit health insurance mandated by corporations
let's talk about gay marriage what's our critical thinking analysis have gay
marriage
well all that it's not just termination to want to keep gays from being
you know from following them to our to be married in its
in its not it's obviously a religious thing it's it's it's from the religious
right they've been going after P
I me you know they discriminated against almost every group B i mean women
I me were you know the religious right has gone against women they've gone
against minorities they do I mean
its it's just ridiculous in its gonna gay marriage is going to be passed in
this country game there's no question because it's the right thing to do
it's just a matter of time the all these all these bible thumpers
are gonna lose eventually because it's wrong it's outdated its antiquated
they need to grow up emotionally let people be who they wanna be
see Steve I I was surprised about our disagreement on health care reform
because you're so spot-on
with the gay marriage issue I mean there's no question inevitably this is a
fight that going to be lost
and it is your right being directed mostly by the religious right since we
agree on that one let me
that one more topic in death penalty give me your thoughts
why I think we you know I at the death of these are really truly controversial
issue I i really think
I mean there are study is that show that its that it's not really effective in
their release some conflicting studies on as I struggled with this one in the
book on a
slant pass I think it I think that the damn the death penalty should be a
you know should be enforced and we should have it but then at the same time
a lot a study show that that it's not really effective in deterring crime so
it's really
that's really a tough one I'm not against the death penalty night
impact again it's more it more the religious right
infringing on a I'm policy and palm what
posse so you believe that it's perfectly legitimate for the state to sanction the
killing of people
based on a list of crimes the state itself has determined to be worthy
enough
love up death as the punishment you believe the state
but I thought I would very libertarian well I
you know it's too it's a tough one it's it's a tough it's a tough issue and
released on you know hot
and I it's a tough call me i i think's songs I think I think it does determine
people
I mean did you know deter people I mean to let you know from from committing new
capital
answers and not although some some study showing answer in town because at the
beginning he said you don't think that it's a very good the term I mean what
about the fact that
forget about whether let's skip whether the state should have the right
to make those decisions about taking life from others
what about the fact that like for example we just found out that in texas
an innocent man was put to death what about the finality of it
the lack above being able to provide someone remuneration for wrong
imprisonment are
incorrect punishment once you want to kill them you can't do that
yeah and I net not a lot of people make that case many
and I think that there's been there there been very few cases that have
turned out that women have all the people
that have been put to death I mean I don't think there's been there been too
many mistakes but your item even if one person if there's a mistake made by one
person
bet is that is one of the issues I don't think I should hold us back I mean I
just sent away but
I think that's reality I i will like
one out of three is not that I get on the three topics we got to the book is
sex politics religion it by Steve Siebold
even if we don't agree I but but the book is very compelling and interesting
reads I thanks for being on today
I think they'll appreciate it
