Hi, I'm Heather, and I run the Academic Study Center in Elmira...
... and I'm Barb, and I run the Academic Study Center here on campus.
We just wanted to show you some of the services that we offer for students.
The Academic Study Center
is where you go if you need a quiet place to study, read, or do homework
or, help from a Staff Assistant or trained peer tutor with a homework assignment,
project, reading, or study skills.
Staff Assistants and Tutors can help by explaining directions and vocabulary,
modeling similar problems,
helping with reading and homework assignments,
showing you effective study techniques,
providing extra practice,
giving immediate feedback and helping you prepare for tests.
On campus, the Academic Study Center is located in the lower level of the Library in room L-107,
and in Elmira in room U-120.
Drop-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged as they guarantee time
with a Staff Assistant or Tutor.
When you come in,
you should bring: your text books, your notes, any specific assignments,
specific questions, and a positive and productive additude.
Other resources that are available at the Academic Study Center are:
handouts on study skills, note-taking,
reading tips,
test taking tips, time management...
We also have learning technology,
programs such as Dragon, which is a dictation system,
and Kurzweil, which is a screen reader.
Thank you, and we hope you come to visit us at the Academic Study Center on campus
in the basement of the Library. Thanks for stopping by & checking out the Academic Study Centers
The Elmira Center is a quiet, comfortable distraction-free place to get your work done,
or get some help.
So stop by and see us!
