This is Alex Carducci, on some Nintendo news
So just when you think Nintendos gone crazy with their ideas
they add were coal to the fire. It's no secret that Nintendo has been chugging behind
the console market this past year
and at the Nintendo investor meeting at the end of January, they provided
reasons, explanations and details on how they're going to move forward.
Satoru Iwata, the CEO and President of Nintendo, took to the stage
to discuss their losses and strategies for the coming year. But at the end of
the meeting
they brought forward a brand new business model which I would like to
discuss today.
As Iwata subtly stated, it will focus on
quality of life with non wearable technology.
What Iwata is suggesting is to expand
entertainment into everyday living with these non wearable device.
The applications will go towards healthier living,
exercising and healthy diets.
Now for many, this raises a few red flags, but we have to remember it's not unlike Nintendo to do
something like this.
Nintendo's business runs on the Blue Ocean Strategy
If you're unfamiliar with it, it brings demand to untouched market territory.
Now what can this do?
Well for one, it can separate them from the competition
and two, bring something new to the table. If this sounds familiar
it's because it is. They did this the Nintendo Wii and DS,
focusing on health and educational type games. Seems as though they're trying
back into that market
at full force. Another interesting thing about these non wearable devices
is that they'll keep the user connected wherever they are, whether that means in the
living room or
on the go. More information will come at the E3 trade show
later this year and is scheduled to have a release of April 2015.
Now across a new sites and fan forums, Nintendo's been getting a lot of flak for
this,
and i know i'm going to be speaking as the minority here.
Nintendo is practically made upon the fact that they dare to be different
they dare to take risks and even if it makes them come out on the bottom
they still keep trying. And that's why I think the Wii U's chugging -
they tried something new, and the results didn't meet up to their expectations.
However, thanks to the Wii's success, they could fail many more times
until they get it right. And the Wii isn't the first time they
aimed at this new market. Here's a bit of history
1983 - the Video Game Crash. Every console
didn't differentiate from each other. So what did Nintendo do?
they provided a novel experience, added accessories
new gaming mechanics, stories to games, something that was
unheard of in this age and now is just basic. It's because they defined what gaming is.
That's why I'm optimistic about this new non wearable technology.
It could seriously change what we think about gaming, and if anyone's gonna do this
it's going to be Nintendo. So in couple years
maybe i''l go out for a jog in the morning and Marioâ„¢ will be my running buddy.
Thanks for tuning in, and I'll see you next time.
