Why are actors afraid to act?
I am I don't know it's interesting and I it comes up a lot
in class. It comes up a lot I'll with professional actors
and actors in training. It has to do I think with the fear
making an *** of yourself. A fear of
being wrong fear or being laughed at or
being criticized and when you have that operating in the actor
it causes you to stifle your impulses
and causes you to not
act from your instincts and
it can cause you to be very pedestrian and acting is not pedestrian.
The behavior you have to create if you're going to be a really dynamic
and vibrant actor with real dimension and size
requires you to be able to take really big risks and you have to be able to
jump off the cliff
and be able to fall flat on your face
in order to discover anything. If you are go`ing to play a major part
and lead roles which is what I assume most actors want to be able to do
do you know you're not trying to do under fives and extra work
to know if you want to be a first-rate character actor that can take on major
parts
you've got to be able to risk you gotta be able to take
big chances with your work and
that takes courage. It's something that actors have to really
find within themselves if they want to be good
