Hi my name is Pat Goodwin with Pat Goodwin Associates and today I'd like to talk to you
about how to find a job that is right for your age. And when I think about that question,
I think about the fact that age is just a matter of attitude and opinion and looking
at the workforce, many employers need people who are mature and who have had a work environment,
have had a successful work career and so age is not necessarily what they're considering.
They're looking more for experience. If you have issues with health where you would have
to consider a job that is right for your age based on a handicap such as not being able
to stand or needing to sit a little bit more often, then a call center might be a good
place for you. If you have special issues with hearing or vision, then you might find
an agency within a state of your, the state agencies of your state that might have special
positions that would be of help to you during your time of unemployment when you're looking
for positions. But I would encourage you to not think of age as an impediment and really
focus on the skills, focus on your strengths, your attitude and your ability to really make
a difference and bring value to the company that you would like to look at and work for.
So a positive attitude, dressing very professionally when you go for the interview, smiling, being
confident and being able to articulate what your skills are and what you can do for the
company would be my advice. So I would encourage you to just focus on the job itself and not
look at age as a strong impediment but hopefully you will screened in due to skills. Thank
you.
