I was headed out to get something to eat and I was attempting to cross the street
I was struck by a car, knocked down, and the car ran over me
and I had multiple injuries. The worst part
was a shoulder fracture that did not heal
which eventually required
a prosthetic.
I had to resign from teaching
because of the nature of the injuries that I sustained
from this accident.
- Welcome to my apartment.
At the time of the accident I was not covered by any insurance.
The surgery and all my medical bills related to this
accident will be covered under the
settlement. The doctors that
I went to either didn't want to touch me with this kind of injury
or I wouldn't trust them with a flea even.
- This is a really tall shower bath and it's hard to get in
so my sister bought me a step so I can step in and then
step off and take a shower. But at first I couldn't get in here anyways with my injuries.
I heard about the Affordable Health Care Act
through TV commercials, radio commercials,
a Navigator from a center for economic progress
phoned me and set up an appointment and went
to that appointment and walked with me through the whole entire program
and we were able to make contact with the Marketplace
and find a program that would most benefit me.
With the program that I chose I did qualify for subsidies
and will be paying just a little under $50 a month
for health insurance, the good copay about a thirty dollar copay.
It will benefit me because then I
can use my doctors and
go to them without feeling like I have to not be able to use them
because of fear of lack of funds to pay them.
