Hello. I would like to demonstrate controlling a CNC milling machine from a Chromebook.
I have here an HP Chromebook 11 and a Shapeoko 2 CNC milling machine.
So all I have to do is open up the gcode sender application for Chrome, lets make that full
screen, uh, and then we can just connect to the device. And then we can we can see that
we can actually move the device with little jog arrow keys, and we can also load up a file.
So I'll just do a little air-cut here to demonstrate. So we have our file there and then we can just
send it along to the machine. And away it goes!
What's kind of nice about using a chromebook for this application is that the devices are
just always up to date by their nature, tend to be very secure, have all of your files
because it's in the cloud, and are relatively cheap to acquire. Uh, which is kind of nice
in case there is a workshop accident.
Uh so this demonstration cut is actually just going through all the various different types
of cuts you'd do with a router, so a pocket cut, a profile cut, just following the line,
doing a few drills here and there, for circles and rectangles.
Well, that's it. I hope I've convinced you that you can indeed control a CNC milling
machine from a chromebook.
Thank you for watching.
