Hello! So although the National Weather Service doesn't technically have an app,
we do have a nice mobile-friendly website,
mobile.weather.gov, that you can use to get forecasts and warnings for
anywhere
in the country. So you can add the site to your home screen on your
mobile device just like to look like any smartphone app just
like you would with any website.
So let's do a little demo of this. I've got some saved locations.
I'm going to click on Caribou Maine there and what comes up
is the forecast,
current conditions, and much more. So you can see an advisory, current conditions.
forecast. Let's click on the advisory. Let's see what advisory
is in effect for Caribou. Got a freezing rain advisory. Let's click on
that and look at some other text.
Here you can see some details about the freezing rain advisory. Going back to the
home screen you can click on that plus for current conditions and see
a little bit more details about the current conditions in Caribou. Going back to the
main screen you can see a quick glance at the forecast there with icons.
You can hit the right and left buttons there and scroll through time.
I can hit the plus on a particular period. Here I'm going to hit
the plus
on Tuesday and you can get an hourly forecast much more detailed and what to
expect throughout Tuesday.
So very detailed. You can go forward Tuesday night, forward to Wednesday
and get that same hourly forecast. So going back to the home screen,
I can click on detailed forecast and get a nice detailed text forecast along with
icons throughout the next week.
You can click on any period like tonight again and get that
detailed hourly forecast you may be looking for. So
going back to the home screen now you can click on
our radar right there below detailed forecast to get
the current radar for wherever you are if there is a radar near you.
So here's the Houlton radar looping
automatically. Going back to the home screen
you can click on satellite but we'll skip through that. You can click on forecast
discussion right below satellite
then get detailed sort of discussion of
the forecaster reasoning for the day. You can go down a little bit further, click on
forecast graphics below forecast discussion
and get some nice maps of say a max temperature for the next few days.
You can look at also the chance for precipitation for the next few days. So
you can really dig deep and get some detail forecast information just from
the simple app.
So going back
to the home screen or to the main screen
you can bring up a new location by using use the map
and then clicking on where you are. I actually have this location saved in
already.
So I'm going to click on 22 nautical miles southeast Bar Harbor Maine.
So this is a marine location. You can get marine information from this app just
like
land information. So here I can click on the advisory in effect you can see a
small craft advisory in effect
and look at the details of that. You can click on the forecast
and get a detailed forecast of the wind, seas,
and weather, and you can click on each period and get again that hourly
forecast for each period showing the winds, waves,
wave height, and wave period even through time.
So you can get the marine forecast for any point
and you can get all the usual things you get up from the land locations like
radar and forecaster discussion and so on if they're available.
Going back to the home screen just remind you can click use a map
to get a new location. It'll save it in your saved location. So I can
click on
let's say Kentucky and save that as a location. So that's a summary of NWS
Mobile
mobile.weather.gov again is that address.
Thanks and have a great day!
