So, tell me Peter, what is this ACCA initiative?
The Acute Cardiovascular Care Association initiative is actually to try to
reiterate the importance of acute coronary syndrome and look at the entire
spectrum of the treatment
and make sure that we implement the best of treatment.
So, the initiative is first to
do an awareness campaign,
to ask for the national societies to
point to us
a local champion who can help with this awareness campaign,
then we want to gather information
from the national societies about
how they are currently treating the patients,
then we are going to bring the national champions to a summit
and try to disseminate and gather a synthesis of all the knowledge
that we have gained over the past few months
and the, at the end, very importantly we will make a toolkit
that covers the entire acute phase of the patients.
One aspect that I think is of particular interest in the initiative you pointing out is precisely
that you are trying to be comprehensive and I think
having the ability to address every single country in the ESC and potentially
every single region in those countries is going to be a key feature
in gathering information.
If you look at all comers, patients with ACS, probably,
when you do not discriminate on age but include everyone admitted
to department of cardiology and medicine,
that, after 3 to 4 years, about that 25% to 30% of STEMI patients are dead.
We need to think
of education for the digital native generation
and these are the physicians of tomorrow and they are probably the physicians who
are going to take care of us
so, we need to educate them very well.
ACCA really wants to
be the community
of all those professionals involved in acute cardiovascular care
and wants to become the meeting point,
the communication
platform
and the education platform for all these professionals to share
the needs, to share the knowledge, and to work together.
The ACCA mission is to improve
the management and the outcomes of patients with acute cardiovascular diseases,
that is why
we will try to develop
actions and products
that help professionals to make
the life of our patients better and longer.
