Hello I am Dr. Steven Murdoch and I am a chiropractor in the Kitchener Waterloo and Cambridge area.
We are going to talk about combining foods for your ultimate health. Even though you
are eating a decent diet. Improper food combinations can lead to heartburn, upset stomach, gas
and can lead to malnutrition. The three rules of food combination are: Number 1 - No protein
and starches at the same meal. Proteins require acid in the stomach to break it down and starches
do not. So do not have steak with potatoes. Don't have rice with fish. You can have rice
with vegetable or potatoes with vegetables but do not have proteins with starches. Rule
#2 No fruit and vegetable at the same meal. Fruit moves through your stomach in 20 - 30
minutes. So always eat fruit on a empty stomach and do not eat fruit with any other foods.
Rule #3 Eat melon alone or leave it alone or your stomach will moan. In short, melons
do not digest well with other foods. A well none Naturopathic Physician, Dr. Pickering
stated that the amount and sequencing of the foods you eat can also make a difference.
He recommends the following eating schedule. Morning meal, you should have the least concentrated
food, the the greatest amount. Ideal choice is fruit. Middle of the day, more complex
foods but in a smaller amount than your first meal. Ideal food choices are starches. Evening,
the most concentrated foods but int he least abundant amount, ideal food choice is protein.
Always eat foods that in season. Eat foods that are indigenous to your area. For more
