Math, what is it good for? Many individuals are taught that math is only important to
learn for taxes, discounts in stores, and keeping track of bills. However, math surrounds
us more than we think. Just about everything in your daily life relates to math. Time,
distance, food, exercising, relationships, thinking in general, and more! Mathematics
helps with developing logical thought processes... What? Slow it down. Okay, so math is performing
steps by following set rules to solve a problem or reach a result. Sound familiar? We do this
every day. Logically figure out what is right and wrong, develop a reasonable sounding solution
and apply it. For example, since technology relates to this
generation the most... Let me demonstrate through interactively using technology. For
instance, in Diabio 3 while fighting a boss (in this case the spider queen) both of us
have certain amount of hit points. I need to figure out how to logically kill the boss
while avoiding death. This doesn't sound so difficult? But, like every math problem there
are variables in the way. Several smaller spiders that I must rid of to reach the end
result I desire. My ability to solve issues like these or other real world problems is
enhanced the more active my brain is in practicing problem solving.
Math isn't just complex calculus problems for engineer or science majors. No, no, no.
It provides a structure environment for you to practice understanding and logical thinking
skills, so then maybe when you step outside the box you'll see the world in a different
light. So whether your problem is finding "x", killing a boss in a video game, or maybe
determining how to resolve other life issues; math is helping you do these things. When
will you let math come your way? Think about it!
