You don't have to be David Attenborough
to know that there's lots of life on Earth.
And it's all a product of creation, whatever we mean by that.
But did you know that there are about 4,500 species of mammal?
10,000 different species of reptile and amphibian.
Around another 10,000 species of bird.
22,000 different kinds of fish
with another 200 species of fish being discovered each year.
That makes nearly 50,000 different species.
And those are just the higher vertebrates.
You can add to them the 1.7 million or so
of the, well, how shall we put it,
the less well-developed invertebrates.
And we haven't even started on the plant life.
So let's ask the big question:
how is life created?
And what role can a chemist, like me, play in answering that question?
Well, let's start at the beginning with the introductions.
